Places to stay, things to do in Portland, ME, Portsmouth, NH & Salem, MA? |
Travel Info I love lighthouses, so I thought the New England area would be a perfect place to see. I am planning a short mini vacation in August. I'll be spending 1 night in Portland, Maine, 1 night in Salem, Massachusetts and 1 night in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I'm looking for recomendations for places to stay in each city along with things to do and see. Thanks in advance for your help! :) Travel Tips Cool itinerary! From Portsmouth, be sure to drive south on 1a, down the coast to Seabrook Beach, NH. turn Right at the dunkin donuts at stop in at brown's lobster pound for the best seafood ever! In Salem, check out Pickering Wharf and just walk around the town, it's cool. Also go out to Salem Willows for a nice view of the water and some cheesy arcade games and ice cream. I think they have boat tours out of Pickering Wharf and from the Willows. Others just so have it i live in salem ma and have been to portsomuth nh and portland me....1. portland me...cape elizabeth gutta go to portland light so so beautifull and then the twin lights they are all in the same if you are gonna drive down rt 1 to portsmouth nh which i do stop at nubble light it breath taking and also stop at lennt the moose in scarsborough maine if you have a sweet tooth that is 95 is a faster route but rt 1 is more scenic, 2. portsmouth fo to the naval yard and take the boat ride to the isle of schoales pardon my spelling and then off to salem ma where i live 3 downtown salem just basically walk around lots to see and do theres also the salem ferry which takes you into boston Do the Portsmouth Harbor Cruise Sunset Cruise, walk around town check out the great art/retail and restaurants.... Stay at the Sheraton, Hilton or the AMAZING Wentworth by the Sea in nearby New Castle. Do all of the touristy witch attactions in Salem, check out their chambr of commerce Portland, Maine has a great lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth. It is called the Portland Head Light House and even has a museum you can visit. Following is the website for the museum. Also, you may want to check out www.madeinmaine.bravehost.com for more things about Maine. http://portlandme.about.com/gi/dynamic/o... Salem can be quite an adventurous kind of place with little things all across the city you might find interesting. You will not want to have missed spending some time around the pickering warf area though. If it's some nice weather and you'd like some open space out a few miles off of Salem, getting out to the Willows has you in a large open area gorgeously surrounded by Ocean and rocky /ocean areas. In Portland alone ther are, I think 4-6 lighthouses. Also in York Beach you must see the Nubble Light House. It is classic New England. The Old Port in Portland is nice to walk around & shop in the quanit shops. I work ther so I know |
