Is Fenway BallPark a decent area, or filled with crime? |
Travel Info Anything you can also tell me about the area surrounding the park, such as good hotels, eateries and discount Red Sox gear would help. I know certain parts of Boston is high on crime, but what about this area? Travel Tips It is a good area. Low on crime. The only thing you watch out for is the drunks coming out of Red Sox games. It is a tourist spot. Surrounded by colleges, restaurants, hotels, souvenir shops. You can get discount Red Sox gear in the parking lots next to the stadium. There is one lot next to Boston Beer Works and they always have tables set up with good looking, decent priced stuff. The Souvenir Store will charge you an arm and a leg. The good eateries are: Boston Beer Works (HUGE menu, but long wait if you get there before a game), Longhorn Steakhouse (401 Park Drive) is about 3 blocks from the park and there is usually a short wait during a game. There are 1000 restaurants in that area from McDonald's' to Japanese. All price ranges. The best hotel in the area is the Hotel Commonwealth but it is very expensive. Around $250 a night. Depending on how close you want to be to the park, you can stay anywhere and take the T (the train is called the T) right to Fenway. You are in walking distance to the Prudential Center/Newbury Street and those are the mega tourist spots (and great fun and great shopping). Others pretty decent, low crime live in area That area, known as "the Fenway" is safe with little crime. As for hotels, no such thing as "cheap" in Boston. Be prepared to pay a couple of hundred dollars a night. You might want to stay in the Back Bay area. A lot more hotel choices there. There are plenty of little "hole in the wall" eateries in the area that are all pretty good. Can't tell you anything about discount gear unless you want to buy stuff from the street vendors. know & live in area. Fenway is very safe. Very low crime in those parts. A lot of the places with high crime aren't in the immediate area of the Fenway. There are plenty of shops around the park where you can find all kinds of Red Sox gear. Plus on most gamedays WEEI is broadcasting their sportsradio shows in their studio on Lansdowne Street right behind the Green Monster. Their always entertaining. Fenway is not far from the downtown area at all where there are plenty of hotels to choose from. Overall, Boston is very low crime compared to other large cities. Fenway particularly is a decent area. Use common sense as with any large city. Good hotels around Fenway will be very expensive, as with most of Boston. You might want to try the Holiday Inn on Beacon Street. It's close to Fenway, but cheaper than some other options. All the shops around Fenway will have tons of Sox stuff, but probably not "discounted". Across from the park is a giant store, and they sometimes will give out coupons on gamedays for 10% off your order, but that's about it. |
