Is Roslindale a safe, commuter-to-boston friendly place to live ? |
Travel Info I'm a 25 year old professional female moving to the boston area and am wondering about the various neighborhoods. I have come across a place in Roslindale and am wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the area...Thanks! Travel Tips Most of Roslindale is very safe; it has a large Greek community and others. But there is a small section with a public housing project that has a little higher crime rate. As for being commuter friendly it could hardly be more: there is both a commuter rail line and lots of bus service, most of which goes to the Orange Line subway, the terminus of which is on the Roslindale/Jamaica Plain line. Others Roslindale is alright: It terms of commuting, it might be more expensive than norm: this is because you have to use a commuter rail since no subway line passes through the area. Also, the commuter rail schedule can be a bit infrequent. Have you try looking at places in Jamaica Plain, it's nearby but more closer to the city. But honestly Roslindale is not that bad...it's just that you might find it easier to live closer. Yeah, Rozzie Rules! But if you move to Boston, you will need to learn how to speak correctly. The nearest subway is the Orange Line terminus at Forest Hills, but there are a couple of bus lines from there throughout Roslindale, and also a commuter rail stop in Roslindale Village. It's overall pretty safe. There are good restaurants there (it's not the most trendy area but it's not bad either). I used to live in Roslindale myself before I moved down to Florida. I loved that area. It was pretty quiet most times and it was a nice place to live with mostly good people. I lived close to Roslindale Square where you had easy access to the buses. You'll have no problem gettin into the big part of the city because the buses take you straight to Forest Hills where you can easily switch to the Orange Line subway. Roslindale is a great area and you should love it!! |
