How crowded is it in cape cod the last week of June?

Travel Info
Just curious if the crowds hit around fourth of July or is the last week of June also busy?

Thanks

We used to go down the end of June for many years...the weather was generally very nice and the crowds FAR less than later on in the season. BUT that said, if it is nice weather there WILL be crowds. But that's how it is going to any vacation destination. I also used to go up to NH every holiday weekend....whenever possible we'd try to go an extra day and leave late, but often we hit traffic. It's the price of going away someplace nice IMHO.

The good thing about most parts of the Cape is that once you get to where you are going it is fairly quiet and the roads aren't too crowded while you are there. The exception to this is the S. Yarmouth/Hyannis area (which is almost always crowded) and during holiday weekends.

But then again we all sit in rush hour traffic often etc...least this is sitting in traffic to get somewhere awesome for the soul!!! So I'd just go when you can (maybe not the 4th lol) and enjoy!

Also, I agree there are some great beaches and places to go off Cape, but I'd have a few different ideas. Let me know if you want to hear any of them. But go and have fun!!!

Once school is out the cape is pretty busy every weekend. Most people who are heading to the cape for the 4th usually head up there the weekend before so that's Friday June 29th and Saturday June 30th.
Amazing. all two lane roads
wondeful place to vist
can you tolerate traffic and enjoy the beauty
warm water
what a wonderful place to visit.
VERY BUSY!!! This is really when the Cape starts getting busy..around the 4th...

Route 6 is a disaster if you are trying to get to the Outer Cape. Try taking back roads if you can. Even though they are still a little jammed, and you need to use the larger routes if you are trying to get from one area of the Cape to the next.

But, it will be worth the traffic. The Cape is gorgeous starting at this time. June tends to be on the chilly side..so once you start getting towards the end of the month it becomes warmer..

Also, if you can deal with taking the ferry, that may be an option. You can take it from Boston-Provincetown(tip of the cape) and they have a shuttle that goes to and from many places in Ptown, Truro, and I believe Welfleet. This is for the outer cape..sorry, i don't know too much about further up on the cape!! But i have to say that the outer cape is gorgeous, and has more beach than other parts.
lived and worked on the outer cape
There is an alternative to the cape. Stay just off the cape, like in Wareham, New Bedford, Fall River, Fairhaven, etc. These smaller towns and cities are just outside the cape, and have many of the characteristics of the cape.
The July 4th fireworks in New Bedford is pretty good. Get a room in the hotel at the waterfront, like Skipper Inn, Holiday Inn Express right off the water. You can see the public fireworks very well, and the private ones the the residents alone the shores put up.
If you have the time, visit Plymouth, Boston, Salem. They are all about an hour away. Salem slightly north, about 2 hours away.
It can get very crowded in Hyannis - especially on the weekends. Even in June. But other areas will be less hectic - Falmouth, Chatham, Orleans, Mashpee...they all have great beaches and fewer people.

That said, the worst of the crowds are encountered when coming and going from the Cape. This past Sunday there was an 8 mile back up of traffic trying to get off the Cape. One trick is to avoid coming and going during peak times - leave on a Friday morning, return on a Monday afternoon. Once you're there it isnt so bad. It's the coming and going that's a killer!
