Is Brighton losing its individuality to consumerism ? |
Travel Info Or will it retain its eccentricity and lack of convention ? I love this place so much for the fact that creative and original people are free to express themselves here, but I'm concerned that in recent years it has become more of a clone of other British cities. Please prove me wrong! Travel Tips I can't prove you wrong! But everywhere is the same: in London we have some groups campaigning to retain the individualism and the small shops that are being steam-rollered into clones of everywhere else. Whichever town or city you visit now seems to be full of the same - phone warehouses, building societies, Principles, Next, supermarkets, etc. It is up to us to try and retain our small, unusual retailers, and hold on to the charm, eccentricity and atmospheric parts that seem to be disappearing so fast. I hope Brighton doesn't follow suit... I did hear a horror story that some developers wanted to "refurbish" the lovely Regency sea-front by building some ultra-moderns skyscrapers in steel and glass - please tell me if there's a petition against it I can sign... Others Brighton sucks I think Brighton is the holiday choice of mindless morons who only ever play bingo, go to funfairs, get drunk, eat chips & have not got the imagination to spread their wings & live a little. YES!!!! absolutely. I think Mods & Rockers put Brighton on the map, but sadly those days are gone and all we're left with is another dull and dirty sea side town. People are not individual anymore they all wear the same clothes, glasses,&are becoming increasingly consumerist-albeit on borrowed funds-London road is individual-have you everseen such a dump?
