Travel Info

i was planning to go down their with a few friends in about a week but then i was told it is a 'gay' city as the majority of homosexuals in the whole country live donw there. is this true?
and if it is...is brighton a safe and enjoyable place for straight people? i mean are there many attraction which arnt just suitable for queers?

Travel Tips
Brighton is seriously one of my favourite towns in England. There is a large gay community, but its not like they recruit tourists - comon.

I am a single female and had loads of fun with my friend. The pier(s) are beautiful, the beach is great, the shopping is awesome (market) and the pubs are fantastic. Everything kind of spreads out from the train station. Nothing is farther than a short walk (which is good after the pubs close)

Others
It is very cosmopolitan.

Yes there is apparently a high gay population, but I suppose I have grown up with Brighton and many things are usual to me.

There is plenty of straight nite life and places to hang out during the day...and just as much trouble as any thriving city...

I love Brighton..its classy, its trendy, its vibrant but then you can chill out and do normal things.

It all depends on what you really want from your trip...a booze up and pub crawl..there is a pub on every corner..take it from me forget about the gay issue and go for it.....

It has its own University so lots of young people and things for them to do.

A bit like London really but on a smaller scale.
Brighton is a great place to live. I've lived here all my life (apart from three years at uni) and it is a brilliant cosmopolitan place to live, with lots of different cultures and sub-cultures here. And yes, I'm straight!

(In terms of safety, there are never violent fights in gay clubs. The only danger to straight people are other straight people).
I was born in Brighton and have lived all my life in Brighton (well, so far anyway) and as I am now 64 I think I can answer this question pretty well.

I don't like gays anymore than you do.
But you don't need worry about them.
Why do you think you wouldn't be safe?
You think one might hit you with their handbag?

I used to be a Rolls Royce chauffeur. During the week approximately 50% of my business was gay work, privately and for gay clubs.

I had my knee squeezed a few times (I just slapped their hand and told them "sorry dear, I'm straight") and they were fine with that.
I never had any trouble with them and in fact they were a lot of fun.

Come on down - you really don't want to be stuck somewhere like Margate - God forbid!
you can get approached by a gay anywhere now.

just because Brighton has apparently been voted gay capital, there is nothing to worry about.
i used to hang around with gay guys when i used to clubbing in the 90s.
didn't mean that they were gonna attack me or that i was gay.
the worst thing about gay men, is the fact that they always seem to have very attractive women as friends, and i couldn't even look at a woman without being laughed at.

Brighton has its fair share of lifestyles.
yes there is a pub on every corner, yes there are gay night clubs, yes there seems to be a lot of very colourful characters - but there is also the 'normal' stuff as well.
coffee shops, museums, night clubs, attractions, etc....

it all depends on what you like - cause Brighton will no doubt fill your need.

don't forget - just because someone is gay - it does not mean that they find you sexually attractive. it does not mean that they will attack you at the first opportunity.
being gay just means that they want to live a lifestyle that is not necessary how you would live it.

forget your worries and give Brighton a visit.
where else you gonna go?
Milton Keynes?
:-)
