Studing in the UK...?

Travel Info
So I'm an international student at Sussex Uni for the year and I was wondering what people think are things that I MUST do before I return to the US in the summer. I'm living in Lewes now (saw bonfire night!!) but I'm at a loss about what I should do and see.

Travel Tips
I dont know what you have seen already, but Bonfire night in Lewes was a pretty good example!

I think you have to see London and Xmas is a nice time to be there. You dont need to go shopping, but a wander around watching everyone else do their Xmas shopping is a fun day. Go and see the lights on Regents street and if you can - get up on the London eye if its a clear evening.

Of course there is much more to the UK than just London.

You are only down the road from Hastings. On May Bank Holiday the town goes mad with "jack in the green" celebrations. this is an old Pagan festival which celebrates the coming of the summer. The old town is full of festival goers, morris dancers and many bikers from the south east area choose to come to Hastings on this day too so there are something in the region of 15,000 motorbikes parked up around the town. It really is a spectacle. Come and have lunch in one of the lovely old town pubs and you can see the castle and the net huts etc.

There are loads of other places in the UK but it depends on how much you wish to travel and spend.

I wouldnt recommend Stonehenge - its far to far to travel for such disappointment!

There are castles everywhere - Warwick Castle is a great example and a really fun day out.

If you want to see the real beauty of the UK then hire a small cottage somewhere like Snowdonia, or anywhere in Scotland, Devon or Cornwall. Take a good pair of boots, a waterproof and an OS map and really get to see what the UK is about!

Finally, you are so close to France - perhaps you should go and have a day trip over there - there are some great deals on Eurostar for weekend breaks in Europe.

Have fun. There is so much to do in this country but its difficult to know what tastes you have. Please though - whatever you do, try to see more than the sights of London!!

Others
Shag a pretty rose ragged... That would be a must do for me, if I was a student there....
Learning to spell "Studying" wouldn't be a bad idea - or at least how to use a spell checker before you return to the USA
Get yourself up to Mayfield with a pair of walking boots and a camera.

Park in the car park - as you enter from the south it lies behind the shops to your right. There's a very narrow lane between the shops that will take you to it.

Stand in the car park and look at the view. Then go and walk in it.
Take lots of photographs of all the pretty cottages and churches that you will see and show all the folks back at home.

This area is what every American dreams of when they think of little old England. It is one of the most picturesque areas of the entire country - and it's just a few miles from Lewes.

Once you have seen it, you will always long to see it again.
