Travel Info
actually iam a student and very soon coming to brisbane for studies, so i want know the cheap and best located place near main universities, brisbane?

Travel Tips
The universities are not located close to each other, so there is no one place you can live which is going to be close to them.

Can you give us some more information such as which uni you have chosen, or at least tell us what you're studying?

hello I'm not sure what you would like to study i recommend Griffith university at Nathan or Mount Gravatt Campus. get onto www.transinfo.com.au to get answers on public transport info at this link. it costs roughly $30 to get to the night life areas in a cab. but if you use public transport u will be pleased to know that if u use the ticket system properly u will find it quite cheap. If you have any questions or further queries check out my 360 page I will try to answer. http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/cabbybr...
Well, it depends on which uni you are going to. There are several unis in brisbane such as Griffith, QUT, UQ. And each has several campuses like UQ - St Lucia, Ipswich & Gatton. But u have to factor a couple of things like proximity to amenities, time vs. cost, convenience?

For example, if u are studying at QUT, it may be costly staying in the city since rental is normally pricey but u don't have to spend so much on transportation (if you walk or cycle) or time travelling.

You can consider staying in the suburbs or sharing the apartment with friends if you really want to reduce your living expenses.
are you an asian student? how long will you be studying in brisbane? which uni will you be attending?
Brisbane is very spread out - over 60 km from north to south and with well over one million residents plus the universities are in many locations.
more info needed from you
Which university? If you say Brisbane, I assume you are talking about Gardens Point campus, QUT. But generally, students live in zone 2 or 3. Zone 1 is Brisbane city centre, and accomodation can be stupidly expensive, like 300 or more dollars a week for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. It might be cheaper to go to Zzone 2 or 3, and pay lower rent. If you stay along zone 2, it is only 20 minutes bus ride, and it only cost you like 1.30 one way or 2.60 for daily ticket. The price of public transport will increase from 1st July.
Check www.translink.com.au for Brisbane 'zone' information.

Anyway, some nice zone 2 area, popular wiht students are new farm, toowoong, indooroopilly (i think it is zone 3), st lucia (near university of queensland), and many more.
Check www.realestate.com.au for rental properties.

If you insist on staying near campus in zone 1, spring hill, south bank, brisbane CBD and fortitude valley (although valley can be a rather seedy place to live) has some accomodation, but don't expect cheap ones.
no try a park bench.
