From the Outback to the Great Barrier Reef, from the Surf Beaches of the Gold Coast to the World Heritage listed Rainforests of the Tropical North. Queensland has it for you to see. We have our major capital city of Brisbane (smaller, of course, than Sydney but with everything that a capital city has to offer. http://www.brisbanecitylife.com.au/... Just an hour's drive south and you are on the beautiful Gold Coast which hosts wonderful events like the Gold Coast Indy and The Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships. http://goldcoast.i4u.com.au/ An hour's drive north and you are on the wonderful Sunshine Coast and it's wonderful surrounds with all it has to offer. From the beaches to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo to the wonderful cottage industries and restaurants in the mountains at Montville and Maleny, there is lots to see and do on the wonderful Sunshine Coast. http://www.sunshinecoast.org/ Just a little further north and you are on the Cooloola Coast. Historic Steam Train rides, hand-feeding the Dolphins, Gold Mines and more. All this awaits you on the Cooloola Coast. http://www.cooloola.org.au/content_artic... Moving up a little further and you come to my region the Fraser Coast. Beautifully restored colonial buildings, Whale Watching (at the right time of year), and World Heritage Listed Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. It is spectacular and worth the trip just on it's own. http://www.frasercoastholidays.info/... From here you head up towards Bundaberg, famous for it's Bundaberg Rum where you can go for a tour of the Distillery and have a taste test of the famous Rum. http://www.bundabergrum.com.au http://www.bundabergonthe.net/hinkler/... Then you're off into Central Queensland and all it has to offer. http://www.driveqld.com.au/qldhols/drive... http://www.arts.qld.gov.au/qhtn_links.as... I hope this gives you a rough idea of the scope of things to see and do in my wonderful State - Queensland. [Edit] Thanks Cheekie - I had to duck off to choir practice and simply ran out of time! There is just too much to see and do in our wonderful State. I was hoping that the two general links down the bottom and the link from Queensland Heritage Trails Network would cover the inland and the North of the State. It's alright for these tiny little States like Victoria and Tasmania - but we're 3 or 4 times the size! Cairns and the Top End are spectacular and should not be missed. The Great Barrier Reef and offshore islands should be visited. Lizard Island, Cape Yorke, Cooktown, the Lions Den Hotel, the Daintree, Port Douglas and then Cairns, heading South the city of Innisfail then down to Mission Beach (I spent 20 wonderful years living here) and Dunk Island just 10 mins away be water taxi. Heading further south through Cardwell with Hinchinbrook Island just offshore (The largest island in the southern hemisphere), then onto Ingham with it's multicultural population, after this you arrive at the large city of Townsville with it's very pretty esplanade (The Strand), offshore is Magnetic Island approx half an hour by ferry. This is a large city catering for the defence forces as well as a lot of industry. Staying on the coast road and further south is Airlie Beach, very trendy, Mackay and then you join onto rcausguy's area. Going inland from Townsville you arrive at Charters Towers a very old gold mining town and further on you go through the brahman cattle breeding areas, gemstone fossocking and gold mining areas. Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Richmond are all out this way. You can also head up to the Gulf and see Normanton with it's famous train and Karumba on the coast for Barra fishing and a beer at the Sunset Room at the local. Hope this is a help. I think the SUNSHINE COAST is a lovely place..... just an hour from Brisbane........... also i would reccomend the gold coast |
