What happens to UK driving license holders who get caught speeding in australia, and receive fine in UK? |
Travel Info Queensland speeding fine received from Australia, in UK mail. What can they do if i dont pay, or if i return to Australia. Will it get forgotton about? Will i get arrested at airport on my return? Travel Tips Generally my recommendation for overseas speeding fines is that if you're ever planning on re-visiting the country, to pay it. I'm not sure that a speeding fine (if unpaid) will be written off. However, I don't think it will be passed to immigration authorities either. (This of course may change at any time... just think of how well these computer databases of information can be linked together!) If you ever come back and are pulled over by police, your license could be red-flagged for an unpaid fine. This would get you into a little bit of strife. If the information was passed to immigration, then you may get a lot of hassle at the airport. You could try and write to the address on the letter you got pleading ignorance, apologising and advising how much you loved the country and how you normally see speed signs in MPH rather than KPH and didn't realise the differences (or something equally culturally challenging and different). The speeding fine would only be around 45-80 pounds. Might be best to just pay it and learn for next time. Others If you don't pay this gets transferred to Interpol in Brussels and you can face up to 2 years confinement. |
