Others Underside or underbelly of the earth as compared to the north American continent. Maybe, not sure. Most of Australia鈥檚 settlers come from north of the equator, they called it 鈥渢he land down under.鈥?br /> Australia is also the only habitable continent that is totally south of the equator. if you accept the convention of showing the earth with the north pole at top, most of the civilized world is above the equator except australia is way at the bottom. so it is down under the rest of the most important world places and it is the most prominent down under. New zealand is there too but too small to mention Australians like having a catchy name for their country, and now that there's a song of that name it'll probably stick for ever. pirates called it. the only place where they didn't know the reefs and feared the Aborigines cuzz they knew what was in the water' |
