Staying in motel, smoke alarm set off by spa can they charge $800 for fire dept attending and take from credi? |
Travel Info the smoke alarm went off whilst heating spa and i went to office and told them there was no fire but the brigade came anyway and I am now told i have to pay $800 which i am not happy about and i want to knoe if they can just take it from my credit card Travel Tips They can certainly try. If they try you should do the following. Dispute the charge with the credit card company IN WRITING. The dispute should specify that the alarm was triggered by a fault in equipment that was the sole responsibility of the motel. This should cause the credit card company to credit the amount back to your card and get out of the dispuite. This leaves the dispute between you and the motel mamangement. There remedy is to then sue you. I doubt seriosly they would ever take that step, even if they did, a judge would never buy the argument that you should pay for a fault in their equipment. Unless of course you hauled in your own spa to their room. Others Refuse to pay it and take them to court. nope even if there was a fire caused by you they would have to sue you for it, report it as a fraud and a dispute to your credit card company and see a solicitor If they haven't taken it from your credit card - call your credit card company and tell them you're card's been stolen. They will send you a new card with a new number and they will not be able to charge on your old card. Pay up. The motel of theirs is a business. Please help them succeed in their business by profiting from this. If you owned motels, wouldn't it be good to have no unforseen costs? Or any costs that do occur, you can charge your customers for and even make profit from? |
