I read that most 4WD's are driven by women, and almost never offroad, and the author suggested that it was likely because women simply felt safer in them.

cause they can climb a mountain, go thru snow with ease, and mudding is FUN!!!
For myself, it's pure necessity. The snow gets mighty deep here, and without 4WD, travel is impossible.
