10 pound pommy's.It was a nickname given to them as they paid 10 pound a head to emigrate from England to Australia
I think you might be referring to what was called the White Australia Policy ... the 10 pound Poms were a part of that as well as the 'Orphan Ships ' that transported thousands of Orphan children to Australia . It was an attempt to populate Australia with Anglo people that went on for a number of years .
One of the more recent sources is on the History Channel .. It was on in Australia as recently as last week . It did not mention the Orphan Ships however
