Central Queensland University Language Centre in Rockhampton?

Travel Info
Hi, I am from Melbourne and I have to go to CQU Language Centre at the end of November.
The address is Bruce Highway, North Rockhampton, QLD 4702.

I would like to know
1) is it far away from Rockhampton City?
2) how do I go to there? Do i have to rent a car? or I can take public transport to go?
3) is there any accommodation around or near the CQU Language Centre?
4) and where can I find a Rockhampton map? (I have tried to search it online, but it is hard to find a clear and good one)

Thanks a lot for answering my Qs!!!

Travel Tips
I live in Central Queensland and am currently studying at CQU, I hope that you have a great time in Rockhampton!

Check out the following website for information: http://www.rockhampton.qld.gov.au...

1. The Uni is on the Northside of Town, about 5km from the city centre.
2. If you are wanting to go out late at night, I would recommend that you hire a car. Public Transport does not run late. All major car rentals are available (Hertz, Avis etc)
3. There is a residential on campus. Depending on how long you will be staying, there are also always people renting out a room in their home (information is always on notice boards at the uni). I would recommend the UniLodge, it is not at the uni but is affiliated with CQU and there are always buses running to the uni.
4. If you can not find a map, check out details on the website above.

Also, Rockhampton is known for its bulls (Beef Capital of Australia). Please take some time to look past this and enjoy what Rocky has to offer - Cultural Centre, Museum, Theatre, beaches, shopping, caving, rock climbing, etc.

It is also very hot in Rocky in November. The dress at the uni is neat casual. There are two public swimming pools and most places are airconditioned.

If you would like to ask me anymore questions, just add it to your questions!

ADDITIONAL

The Language Centre is on the CQU campus - Building 11. It is easy to find (the campus is quite small and all builings are numbered).

If you are only there for one night - I would recommend that you call the Language Centre, they may be able to arrange for you to be picked up and dropped off at the airport (this is offered free of charge to all students).

There are lots of motels near the uni. The Dreamtime Lodge is great, phone (07) 49364600. It is too far to walk to the uni but you could catch a cab. The Glenmore Hotel Motel is located within walking distance to the uni. Phone (07)49268500, it has a great restaurant and is also close to bus stops and other shops. If you are staying overnight on a weekday I would recommend it but it can get a bit loud on the weekends.

For only one night I would not bother hiring a car. A cab from the airport to the uni campus would only cost about $20.

Enjoy your stay!

Others
I used to live in Rocky but it's a few years ago now. The CQU is located about 5km north-east of the central business district but is not actually right on the highway, rather it is a hundred metres off the road. it lies between the highway, also called Yamba Road and Norman Road. That is all on the northern side of the Fitzroy River.

The Rockhampton City Council used to operate a bus service. It would almost certainly include a few services to the CQU. Check the city council website and email them for information. Buses might not run after the end of the academic year so it might be best to hire a car. At least two of the major car rental companies operate in Rocky. It will be very hot there in November for a Melbourne person so walking or cycling will not really be an option.

There may be college style accommodation around the CQU available at the end of November. There are also many motels along the highway running north, seems to be a major Rockhampton industry, motels, so you should be able to get one fairly close. Most of them are fairly modest places but clean and cater to people driving north from Brisbane - it's a day's drive. Rent a room for a week or more and you may be able to get a good rate. Look for one on Yamba Road or Musgrave Street.

Rocky maps used to be a bit scarce and the ones you could get were well out of date. Have a look at Google maps and Google Earth, the Rockhampton images are good. Try Gregory's. You should be able to get Rocky maps in Rocky, try newsagents of service stations.
