Is it best to have a car when you visit the Gold Coast? |
Travel Info I'm visiting the Gold Coast soon and wondering if I should just drive up there so I have a car when I'm there or if I should fly and rely on public transport. We have small children and want to go to the theme parks and factory outlet shops. Travel Tips I would take the car, especially if you have children. It means you can come and go when you want, can go places the buses don't reach. It will probably be cheaper than flying and you don't have to worry about keeping the kids occupied and well behaved on the aeroplane. However, the area is busy with other cars (lots of dumb tourist drivers too) and it's not always easy to find street parking. But overall, I would take the car so you don't have to waste any valuable family holiday time sitting around at airports, bus stops and train stations. Others buses go to all those places but a car is handy you can come & go when it suites you With little ones, you might be better off driving up and taking it in easy stages. The public transport is good, but with a car, you can come and go at will, you won't have to worry about loading pushers or backpacks onto buses all the time, and you'll have none of the hassles of airports, etc. with little kids in tow. You can always use public transport once you're there - for going to theme parks or shopping , but having a car will give you alot more freedom and versatility. Have a great trip ! car definately... either drive (depending where you are from because if its a long drive your kids will go crazy) or rent a car! you definately need a car and a map because it = freedom to explore yeah and also visit Brisbane....its great! there are shuttle buses that go to those areas. I think the company i used in december was surfside. It not only includes the airport & theme park transfers but also public transport. I went up there when i was a child and we used public transport too. A lot of the attractions on the Gold Coast have free shuttle buses. I personally can not stand driving in the Gold Coast, the traffic is usually insane and there are very little car parks. However, it is a bit spread out, so trying to do it via public transport can be a bit of a chore. If you feel comfortable with driving in high stress conditions, go right ahead, but if not, their buses aren't too bad (although they do have a bit of a reputation for being late) |
