Very Safe.
We visited there as a stop off on a carnival cruise last year. We hated to leave so we booked a condo at Marina Sol Resort for this Dec 15 to Dec. 20. We are really looking forward to it. Our favorite place last time was Santa Maria beach. This next time we a have a ton of activites planned which include goint to the small town of Todos Santos, the villages of El Sauzal and Las Prisas, visiting the glass blowing factory, horseback riding, ATV riding, seeing the san miquel indian rock painting etc. I plan to rent a jeep and drive around. Most of the people in town are Americans.

The whole country is safe. It's when drunk people get in trouble with the cops or when they do stupid things when it becomes "unsafe". Just use the same precautions as anyplace else and you'll be fine.
