How much is tequila in Mexico? |
Travel Info I'm planning to buy a few bottles of tequila to give to my guests at my wedding in Cabo. I know a bottle here is about $20 (Cuervo, Sauza). How much would a bottle of tequila cost there (any brand)? Should I buy it in Cabo? Travel Tips For Sauza or Cuervo, is about the same price, but we have much better tequilas than those, small companies that don't export. Source(s): I work for a tequila boutique in San Jose Other Travel Tips I would buy it there. It was very cheap from the state liquor store in Tijuana. A fifth of Cuervo Gold was like $7.50. Sauza Hornitos is about $20us and $29 in Washington state Jimador is around $10 and $22 in WA http://sparks-mexico.com/ The price of a bottle of tequila may vary very much, depending on the quality of the product. Basically, there are two kinds of tequila: (1) Tequila 100% Agave and (2) Tequila. The 100% is the purest one, it is by far the best, and it is also more expensive. The bottle has to clearly state it is 100% Agave. There are different kinds of "Tequila 100% Agave" and "Tequila": 'blanco' or white, 'reposado' or lightly aged and 'anejo' or aged. Usually the white tequila is the cheapest and the aged tequila is the most expensive. Your chose depends on your taste. My recommendations: (1) Do not buy, drink or even stare at the Cuervo Gold. Stay away from it! No offense, but it is the worst tequila ever, unless you want to get drunk and sick. Same applied for Sauza Extra (gold). (2) Look for the Tequila 100% Agave. The bottle will show that it is a 100%. If the bottle says nothing, it is not 100% pure, even if the sales clerk insists. Do not let the bottle fool you; some Tequilas in very fancy bottles are not 100% Agave, although the bottle may be very pretty. (3) My suggestions: I love Don Julio white, but it is somehow expensive and white tequilas have a strong flavor that many people do not like. Other more popular and slightly less expensive suggestions: "Cuervo Tradicional", "Centenario Reposado", "Sauza Hornitos", "Cazadores Reposado". They are all excellent 100% Tequilas and probably Centenario Reposado offers the best value. I do not like tequila anejos (aged); I find them too sweet. If price were not an issue, you may want to look for a 100% Agave aged Tequila named "Cuervo Reserva de la Familia". Serve it as a cognac (no kidding!) after the desert. It costs at least $180.00 USD a bottle. (4) If the cost of the Tequila 100% Agave is too high, you should look for a decent Non 100% Tequila: I suggest 'Jimador Reposado' or 'Cabrito reposado', although they are not actually cheap if you compare what you pay with what you get from the 100% Tequilas. (5) Los Cabos is one of the most expensive resorts in Mexico. However, I would guess that tequila in Los Cabos would be less expensive than in the United States, but it is only a guess. I suggest you to visit the website of La Europea at http://www.loscabosguide.com/laeuropeaca... La Europea is one of the finest wine and liquor retailers in Mexico and they have a store in Los Cabos (I always shop at La Europea in Mexico City) and they have a price list on line. (6) Actual tequila lovers never drink it in shots; we sip it very slowly. In any case, drink it as you wish and enjoy your wedding! |
