Travel Info Which area is better to live in in Calgary, AB? I'll be working in the SE area and looking to live close by. Travel Tips If you are looking at particular neighborhoods, the link below shows the crime statistics by neighborhood name. Personally I prefer the NW or SW, but I like the mountain views and the gateway to Banff. Source(s): http://www.calgarypolice.ca/news/stats_c... Other Travel Tips The South east is a big area and it really depends on what you do for work as to where would be a good place to live. If you are going to work in an industrial area, your commute will be much different than if you work in one of the commercial areas of the SE quadrant. As to the proposition that you can be choosy about where you live in Calgary right now..... well, I hate to burst your bubble buddy, but unless you're a multi millionaire, you're gonna have to take what you get even if it means commuting all the way across town. Good luck.... you'll need it. I'm a recent escapee I have an aunt that lives in the Lake Sylvan area of Calgary SE. She tells me that the prices for housing in that area are so high at the moment that they are actually considering selling their house (for a handsome profit) and moving to the maritimes where housing is really inexpensive at the moment. Calgary NE has some nice housing, and should be cheaper near the airport, but you would then need to commute. As was mentioned, the SE quadrant is huge. If you're working in the industrial park the commute on Barlow South isn't too bad compared to the rest of the city. Avoid MacLeod Trail like the plague at rush hour, I mean that! No matter where you live everything is a commute in that city at this point. My girlfriend and her husband live in the far SW and she works in the far NE and spends an average of 1.5hours each way every day, so 3 hours a day in traffic unless it's an exceptionally good day for traffic. Sorry to say that city is growing so fast that there are NO short cuts anymore. The deep south parts of Calgary have some beautiful areas, like Midnapore and Sundance. They are close to Fish Creek Park, Sicome Lake (not a nice lake, more a pond, but that's all we have so we revel in it), and view of the mountains if you're far enough south as well as the view of the skyline downtown. Good luck finding a place! |
