I'm in Calgary. What fun things should I go and do or see? |
Travel Info I'm 22, I'm British, and I'm in Calgary for a couple of months as part of my degree course, so I'm looking for fun, entertaining, or enjoyable activities to fill my time. Esoteric is probably good - I've got two months to fill. That said, there's probably obvious attractions I haven't come across, so anything goes. I'm not especially sporty - ice hockey, for example, would probably be a sure-fire way for me to be going home early with broken limbs. Please bear in mind that I'm reliant entirely on public transport from the Dalhousie area. Thanks for your suggestions! Travel Tips Try the Calaway Park amusement park. If you can leave the area though, Drumheller AB has a Paleontology Museum thats awesome and EdmontonAB has the worlds largest Mall with everything and then some under one roof. Sylvan Lake has a really nice Waterslide Park. Others There's a lot to do in Calgary, and Alberta in general! Venture out to Edmonton if you can while you're there. Public transport will get you pretty much anywhere in Calgary, not just Dalhousie, you'll just need to transfer. Also remember you can take the LRT (light rail train) which is free in the core of downtown, and very reasonably priced outside the core. So, for shopping you can go to the Market Mall, the Willow Park Village, and Chinook Centre which is accessible from the LRT directly. Visit the Calgary Zoo, The Prehistoric Park, and the Botanical Gardens, The Telus World Of Science, the Grain Academy Museum, and Spruce Meadows. Those are just some of the places I can think of, and nearly all of them are direct access from the LRT. Also! Don't forget to check out the Calgary Stampede. That is a MUST SEE! It's taking place from July 7-16 this year. Have tons of fun, and if you need more things to do, ask around, or google!!!! Enjoy your stay! Lived in Calgary for 3 years. look for a place called forest lawn.. lots of great people andthings to do tallo to the queen... ta ta COWBOYS nightclub on a weekend, STAMPEDE in early July at the stamped grounds Make friends with someone with a car or rent one and get to the mountains ( Lake Loiuse, Morraine Lake, Icefeilds parkway, Takkakaw Falls, Banff/Banff Springs Hotel/Banff gondola ) You can't come to calgary without going to the Rockies You got stampede in a month buddy. Buy a cowboy hat and a big box of condoms! (If you pay enough attention you should be able to eat for free the whole week.....) |
