What is the sales tax in Calgary Canada? |
Travel Info What is the sales tax in Calgary Canada? Travel Tips No provincial or city tax is correct, but, if you are from outside Canada, you may not know of the GST, which is federal, and is 6%. Judi is in error, the GST was 7%, but changed to 6% July 1, 2006! Others There is no Provincial Sales Tax in Alberta. http://www.livingin-canada.com/living-in... The first answer that there is no PROVINCIAL sales tax in Calgary is correct but not complete. There IS a Federal Goods and Services Tax (called the GST) that applies to all goods and services in the entire country including Calgary, and it is 6%. Fred is correct - it WAS 7% but was reduced to 6% in July 2006. I moved to Mexico in 2002 and was not aware that it had been reduced. Sorry Fred! Applies to almost everything you buy, use, etc. I am a Canadian who lived in Calgary for 27 years. if your going to buy something eg. a pair of flip-flops for $20 for every dollar its 7 cent so the flipflops would be $21.40 All of Canada has the Federal 6% tax (GST). Most provinces have an additional tax of 5 to 9% or so, but there is none in Alberta (Including Calgary). http://www.calgary-city-maps.com/calgary... It helps make it a great place to live. |
