Calgary - Current job market situation and best neighborhood to live in? |
Travel Info I am currently applying to emmigrate to Canada from the UK. Can anyone give me a first hand account of the current job market situation in Calgary. I currently work in IT in the mining and construction sector and fully qualified with degree and other recognised IT qualifications. Also, which are the best neighborhoods in Calgary to buy a house in? And which should be avoided at all costs? What is the average house price? Travel Tips I recently moved to Calgary. The job market is great. They can not fine enough workers especially in the trades like electrician, plumbers, anything to do with homes. They say Calgary is growing at 10% a year, which means jobs jobs jobs. I find most areas to be good enough to live in. I have a family so that was important to me. There are some areas in the SE and NE to stay away from, but are better than most "bad" places in big cities. The NE and SE, you could live anywhere and be happy. The closer to downtown the more expensive of course. Yout IT degree will help you land a job in no time flat. Almot any neighborhood in Calgary will be a decent place to purchase due to home prices escalating. This will help you gain value quickly. So take a look in the SE and NE. I think that you will find them all very desireable. Others In general, avoid the East side (North or South). I lived in Calgary three years ago and plan to return next year, and I suggest Kensington. It is absolutely gorgeous, quaint and has a real family-like feeling... but it's only minutes away from downtown and the universities! |
