Other Travel Tips Calgary is situated on the banks of the Bow River and close to Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. It's western Canada, the southern part of the province of Alberta at the base of the Rocky mountains. It is an AWESOME city!!!! Imagine the west of Canada: two huge territories up north, and three long provinces all in a row. The furthest west is BC. The next one in from the coast is Alberta. It's a really mountainy, foresty province in the west, and it turns into sort of prairie plains as you go east. Calgary is right on the border between that mountainous area (the Rockies -- it's gorgeous!) and the plains. Driving east of Calgary isn't too exciting, but driving west you hit Banff and can get to Jasper or the Okanagan ..... pretty much anything nice in BC or Alberta is within a day's drive. I wouldn't live there, but the youthful nature of the city makes it fun to visit. There's money to burn and nightlife to prove it!! Alberta! Do you have an atlas? Look for Canada. Look on the left hand side of Canada. The province with its toes in the water is British Columbia. Go to the right and the next province is Alberta. Calgary is in Alberta, down near the bottom of the province, very close to the US border. |
