Torn between london,ON and calgary,AB!!! WHICH ONE IS BETTER?need honest views!!? |
Travel Info i'm torn between uofcalgary and uofwestern ontario. london is a HUGE city with all concerts there, and calgary is more relaxed. i'm sure room rentals is lower in calgary than in london, i was told by my canadian teacher that london is very expensive..but I,VE HEARD that calgary can be a bit intolerant of different races. I am A MUSLIM girl, WITH A HIJAB. how bout it? NEED HONEST VIEWS. im from south east asia...going canada this september!! Travel Tips Hello. I hope you have a good time here in Canada, regradless of where you stay. I find Calgary not to be relaxed as you say. We're a booming, growing city not ready to slow any time soon. The U of C has many great options. They are very part of the diverse Calgary community. As for racism, I've never seen or heard of it here in Calgary. We have many cultures here, Chinese, Italian, Hispanic, East Indian, so on so forth. There are endless career opertunities here as well. Almost every store is looking for workers, which would be great for you if you need a source of income while being a student. Myself, I'd choose Calgary. A remarkable city with interesting heritage, while keeping the new and modern alive. Enjoy your stay in Canada. Others Hello, I've lived in Calgary for a while, and I say it has to be one of the most beautiful cities in North America. There is a lot to do there, from nightlife to outdoors (Banff National Park is just an hour or so away...) As for the intolerance item, I'm sure there are ignorant people there, as there is all over the world, but Calgary is so diverse that there isn't a single majority. You'll find people from every country in the world on any given day...so I don't think you'll have much of a problem. That is my opinion, I hope you enjoy yourself whichever place you decide. Right now I live in Windsor (2hours south-east of London) and I lived in London for a couple years. In southwestern Ontario (London and Windsor) there are a lot of international students - including many muslim men and women. I think that you would be comfortable here. I have only visited Calgary - not lived there and it's a nice place, but I wouldn't want to live there. London is very pretty, it's not that expensive - all depends on where in the city you live. London is not a huge city - there's about 209 000 and it's surrounded by farm country. It is also a very commercial city with lots of shopping. Also - U of Western has an extremely good reputation here and the campus is beautiful. Good Luck! Hi I am 15 years old, and have lived in Calgary my whole life. I would love to see London. Calgary is getting really expensive lately depending on where you live, and if you are paying for gas, but the way most of us treat different people is the same. I am white and christian, but a couple of my friends are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and many other things. I have Chinese friends, Native American friends, British friends, pretty much any background. There are many good sites in Calgary. If you come to Calgary, don't forget to go to Calaway Park, the Zoo, Heritage Park, and the Mountains out in Banff. Hope you have a great trip. p.s. If you choose Calgary, don't forget to pack warm cloths(even in the summer). Are you sure you're thinking of London, Ontario, Canada? It's not a huge city (it's probably half the size of Calgary and Calgary's not huge either, certainly less than a million people) and I don't know that it's particularly expensive. London England is both of those. Calgary may well be less tolerant and less ethnically diverse, yes. It's got better scenery. The weather in Calgary is more extreme (but you'd no doubt think the weather in London is extreme if you didn't know Calgary.) Canada's a great place. Enjoy! No comparison...London is a nice city but nothing exciting there...Calgary has the Stampede, the Calgary tower, Cowboys (country bar), COP (Calgary Olympic Park) with bobsled rides, the Calgary zoo, and not too far to the Rockies. Well I grew up in Calgary (though I don't live there anymore) and I would say Calgary . What better way to live you have Banff , Kanasakis plus the Stampede etc.. right at your doorstep. Plus you have huge parks right in Calgary like Fish Creek . I still have alot of relatives there but don't get to visit as often as I like. |
