What kind of food gifts can I bring back from from my Alberta, Canada vacation this summer? |
Travel Info What kind of food gifts can I bring back from from my Alberta, Canada vacation this summer? Travel Tips Old stand bys: Maple Syrup. I grew up on the stuff, and that other crap they sell in the store just doesn't cut it. Also try maple candy. But I find it too sweet. The Smoked Salmon in the native designed gift box. The new trends: Look for some salmon jerky. And the best idea is Ice Wine! My suggestion is BC stuff, but is also Ontario available. The grapes are left on the vine until the temperature hits freezing. It is a sweet desert wine. Part of it depends on where you are coming from. - We have given several suggestions, so you have some ideas. But typically, if from the US Midwest, all are good, but if from North East - already have Maple Syrup, from the North West, have access to Salmon. And if from California - the decision on ice wine can go either way. California has wine so you might not be interested as you have wine, or you might be interested as a connoisseur of wine. Fillet mignon for your friends almost beats the perverbial maple syrup and calendars!!! Creativity!!! Where is home? Take back some Canadian Maple Syrup.. you have to, great on pancakes and it doesnt get much more Canadian.. not sure where you are from.. but I recently took Smarties ( little chocolate candies) to the USA as a treat cause you cant get them there. There are a couple of types of Alcohol that I dont think you can get outside of Canada too, there is a Spiced Rye called Revelstoke that is pretty darn good. ( similiar to say a Spice Rum like Captain Morgans only it is a Rye) and of course there is good old Canadian Beer... you are going to have a problem taking other food items out of Canada, best to just buy them at the duty free at the airport.. you can get smoked salmon and such too in really neat ornate native boxes - great gifts.. I confir with squirrel/and others above, and you have to also try our OLD DUTCH potato chips... I know it may not seem like something exotic as maple syrop but that is one of the most popular items that goes through customs other than our syrop, salmon, beef, Canadian whiskey, and fur's. (although that one is def not a food item, lol) another item i remember that is only here in canada is coffee crisp chocolate bars. |
