Very quaint little village. Reminds me of something from a by gone era. My fav thing that I did while I was there was go in a Hot Spring, the most relaxing feeling in the world, surrounded by the beautiful scenery, you can't go wrong. The answerer above is right you should make the trek up to Lake Louise, if you are going to be that close I would definitely make the trip. Moraaine Lake is one of the most photographed places in the world. Absolutely breathtaking.
For a July visit, golf is good that time of the year. One of the nicest hotels is Banff Springs, even if you do not stay there, go for a walk through or have lunch. Everything there is within walking.

Enjoy the peaceful ness of the Canadian Rockies....doesn't get much prettier than that!!

yes it is beautiful. the mountains, the spring water! JOhnsons CAnyon!
It is a bit touristy though.
you really should camp.
It is the best place in the world.
Banff is really beautiful. May I suggest though that you go to Lake Louise while you are there. It is about 45 min. west. Go hiking up to the Six Glaciers by the Lake Louise. Also take a Gondola ride and see Lake Moiraine. It is really spectacular.
Lived in Lake Louise
It is beautiful! Everyone must see Banff once in their life!
Banff is great..great views, very expensive however...hiking,golf,wildlife... enough to drive to Calgary(1 hour)...if you need the big city feel. Canmore ,on the way to Banff from Calgary is also very nice....Banff is a trip you will never forget...too much great geography...!
I lived in Calgary and area for 20+ years and so I've been to Banff a lot. It is very scenic and beautiful but is also very expensive and commercial now. Banff use to be about nature but now its more about shopping and sucking in tourists dollars. Personally I prefer Waterton park becouse its more natural but many people love Banff and I'm sure you'll enjoy it too.
