What are some good bars/cafes to check out in downtown Calgary?

Travel Info
I'm looking for some place to go with my boyfriend where we can chill out, listen to music (dj) etc. We're not looking for a dance club, but more of a laid-back vibe. Martini bars are good too.

Travel Tips
The Vicious Circle is great, more quiet and relaxing. Melrose Cafe and Bar on 17th Avenue is the most happening in the downtown core, always full of people, especially in the summer on the patio. If you give it a try then have a Spinach and Artichoke dip, it's my favourite there and i've tried it at every other restaurant!

Others
I like the Avenue Diner on Stephen Ave. the Metropolitan grill is a safe bet but a bit more stuffy. Palomino can be loud but the food is good.
Lime Light plays some inter sting stuff. Drum and Monkey, The Blind Monk, and Vicious Circle sometimes have funky bands on. I don't know the name of it, but just off Stephen Ave and 2nd street is a really neat little underground jazz bar if that's what you are into.

I hope that helps!
Hey, it might even be good to take in a movie once in a while also.

There is a link on this page for what's around...

The same site has other pages listing clubs, music and whatnot.
Amsterdam Rhino on Saturday nights is good. I've heard soho lounge is fun for weekends. Also Bamboo Lounge. My ultimate favourite is Broken City; they tend to have a lot of live music and has great atmosphere ( great change from the typical top 40 crap).
I never really checked out the pubs and bars downtown, but the Penny Lane district and Ceili's looked fun. Just for lunch, Juan's Mexican Restaurant was a great bet...very authentic, but get a reservation! La Casa de la Salsa was also really good, great ceviche and salsa/merengue dancing at nights...now it's a quieter place, so go there with friends. My boss said that Teatro was great...she was a rich b*tch so it was probably really ritzy and nice.
