Anzac day.................What does it mean to you?

Travel Tips
being eternally grateful to the servicewomen and men who gave their lives, or at least a large portion of it, to keep us safe and free. without getting into any political discussions, it's about the sacrifice they've made, and honouring that.
and just an aside...IT IS NOT ABOUT SHOPPING!! KEEP THE SHOPS SHUT!!
Others
nothing really.
Pretty much the tough times that the war troops went through...I try to watch some of the hisrotical programmes on to keep reminding myself how blimmin hard it was for them and how tough they must have been to survive it.
And its a nice day off!
ANZAC stands for the Australia and New Zealand Army Corp. They fought against the Turks in Gallipolli in 1915, in WW1. Over time ANZAC came to stand for all Australian and New Zealand soldiers. ANZAC Day is on the 25th April each year, to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives in war. The 25th April is also the day of the first landings in Gallipolli on a beach which later became known as ANZAC Cove.
A day of remembrance, for the New Zealand and Australian soldiers who went to Gallipoli. I think of whanau who died in the war. Its a time to remember and honour them all. Lest we forget.

E kore ratou e tae koroheke penei i a tatou e ora nei, e kore te wa e whakaruhi nga tau ranei e whakare i a ratou
I te urunga mai o te ra, a tae noa ki tona torengitanga
Koi maumahara tonu tatou ki a ratou
E kore e warewaretia...

They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them...
It is a timely reminder that there were once great men who thought that when our country was threatened that it was worth fighting for and ultimately worth dying for.
A far cry from the desecration of the war memorial at bathurhst just before dawn today, by a few teenage girls.
I don't like the idea of war, but it is part of our history and present, and has become necessary in years past, in order for us to live the free lives we do today.
I think my 7yr old son summed it up nicely this morning at the dawn service...he yawned and i said"tired mate?" And he said "yeah, but not as tired as the soldiers must have been mum, so im ok"....out of the mouths of babes....
Hoping you had a bonza day!
It is a day to remember all of those New Zealand and Australian men and women who gave their lives for our countries
