Canberra is expensive for accomodation, and you have just nominated the busiest time when students and new public servants start coming over. You may find Quyenbeyan over the border to be much cheaper. I live there If you are only coming for two weeks you might find one of the Bed & Breakfast places best. There is also Youth Hostels Australia and the Canberra Motor Village.
