My family is moving to Canberra soon and we wonder if there are any suburbs we should avoid (high crime etc)? |
Travel Info Alternatively, can anyone recomend a 'safe, quite' suburb of Canberra? Any info appreciated Travel Tips I've been here more than 15 years. None of the suburbs have particular problems but like anywhere it's probably best to avoid the inner city suburbs - those really close to "Civic". It may also be best to avoid suburbs with lots of public housing, that basically means around Civic again. I'd avoid any low-lying suburbs. Low lying land = cheap housing = higher crime or public nuisances like Harley-Davidsons and old V8 cars. Same anywhere. Anywhere in the Woden Valley, Belconnen, nearly all of Tuggeranong except the newest bits or Weston should suit you. Gunghalin is a new suburban development area but I don't like the place. Large houses on small blocks of land and there are still some transport problems. Choose on the convenience to your work and you won't go far wrong. Others I'm sixteen and I've lived in Canberra my whole life, in general it is a very safe place to live, however I would avoid places such as Civic and Manuka during the night time. I live in Banks which is down south near Tharwa and I love it, it is peaceful, backing bushland and has many local schools, and is less than ten minutes away from the Hyperdome, however there are many other suburbs which are quiet and safe, most suburbs are in fact. |
