Has anyone stayed in the Riu Cancun hotel we are going there on 15th of May 2007 and I was wondering what it was like there

I was just there!!! Unless you like a very firm mattress, request a feather bed to go on top. Specify top shelf liquors by name or you will get cheap stuff. And request a low floor number if at all possible. There are only 6 elevators for the whole complex, and you could be waiting a while. I can give you many tips if you want, just email me, I also have a bunch of pics I can share!!

I was there 2 years ago and the hotel is beautiful. There's not that much of a beach front but the pools are beautiful. The food is good and you have to try their Brazilian Restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is located close to the main attractions. The rooms are spacious and the in room bar is the ultimate. Have a great time.
I'm getting married there in 6 weeks and have read every review out there, trip advisor has some great reviews as does Yahoo. Here are some of the things I've read so far:

--Beds are rock hard, but you can request a bedpad...if you do enough during the day you won't notice it.

--Food is pretty good, but you have to make reservations for the Brazilian and Japanesse restaurants early that day

--The drinks are great, but best if you bring your own big cup b/c they serve the drinks in 8 oz cups...the fridge in the rooms are stocked with soft drinks, beer and water(which is good for brushing teeth,ect.)

--Beware the solicitors either at the hotel or in the airport....a tip that I read was act like you speak French or German...these people can't speak those languages and will leave you alone

--Hot tubs are not hot, just a tub of water with jets in them

I absoutely love the RIU CANCUN......food is good, service is good, the grounds are wonderful......it is just a good place. I would also take advantage of the RIU Caribe for one day....just for a change. Go spend the day.......I really like their drinks and pool area better. The rooms are very comfortable with all the amenities you will need. Our service was excellent.....we had trouble with our air in August and someone was there within 5 minutes to correct the problem. Try out all the restaurants.......you will miss out if you don't make reservations for some of them. The hotel staff will give you this information when you arrive....where you must make reservations. Make them early because they fill fast. You will really enjoy RIU and the location is excellent....within walking distance to all the clubs, shopping, and good restaurants. You will be very pleased with your resort choice!!!!
THE BEST!! We just got back and it is one of the best places to stay in Mexico!! RIU palace Cancun is a FAV!! They have great food, service, staff, view.... highly recommend to anyone single or family!! Also, the show staff is SO MUCH fun!! Don't forget to go to the 10pm shows, you will have a great time. As for the drinks, ask for top shelf and you will get in and who cares how big the glasses are, your glass will be filled as many times as you desire... good luck to you and have a blast!!!
