We are going to Cancun Mexico soon staying at the RIU Cancun ...? |
Travel Info Can you tell me somethings we may want to do near the RIU? Also how the RIU itself, any tips ... food, etc.? Travel Tips Just got back yesterday from a week there and we had a fun time. About 14 of us down there....my new wife and I got married on the 17th. They offer some great food at the two main restaurants/buffets. The main buffet offers different themes each night and you can also make reservations for the Japanese or Brazilian restaurants too. During the day, the animation team makes sure that it's not just another boring day laying out by the pool or on the beach with a variety of different games. They are the most upbeat group and I think it really shows that they love their jobs. Check the trip advisor site for reviews and pictures, they are pretty right on. Try to get a room in the annex building if you can....only 6 floors high and right by the main pool and beach. Across the street is a mall with your basic shops selling anything from sunglasses to tshirts to shoes. This is also a great place to book any excursions or tours, they are about 3/4 the cost of what the guys in the hotel will charge you. The party hopper tour is fun, but the coco bongo is usually a packed house and pretty miserable on weekend evenings. The booze cruise to Isla Mueres is fun, very interactive for the audience. Back to the food at the RIU, breakfast is great...try the omelets that they make to your specifications. For lunch the mission off the pool/beach has great burgers and pizza....the ice cream is a great finishing touch. Tip...when checking in, tell them it's a special occasion like your anniversary or special birthday and maybe they'll upgrade you to a junior suite. Don't make any calls...$3.50 just to get an outside line...rip off. Have fun! Others This activity requires renting a car and driving. If you are interested in seeing some historical Mayan sites in Mexico, the town of Tulum is a good drive from Cancun. Driving there is safe and the risk of rebels/guerillas is very low compared to other Latin America countries. In Tulum, there are Mayan Ruins which are beautiful and well-preserved. It is free to guide yourself through the ruins, or you can take a group tour at designated times during the day. It is a bit of a trip in the car, but well worth it. the view is breathtaking from on top of the hill. I've stayed at RIU in Mexico before, not this specific one, but it was wonderful. Everyone was amazing and the hotel was one of the best I've ever been too. I hope you enjoy your trip. I'm jealous! RIU Cancun is a very nice hotel....food is good, but make sure you make reservations at the restaurants that requires them being made in advance (best food is here).....the buffet is also good...pool is great with many activities throughout the day....Beach is great.....it is a very good place to stay. Right across the street is a good shopping plaza (Plaza Caracol). You are withing walking distance to Market Negro Coral Beach, Carlos and Charlies, All the good clubs, La isla shopping plaza is not too far.....you are basically within walking distance to most of the major things in Cancun. Everything else is just a short bus ride. You will really enjoy RIU Cancun.....it is one of my favorites. Enjoy your trip. |
