I want to honeymoon in Cancun - looking for a NICE/cheap hotel and some fun things to do - any ideas? |
Travel Info Were planning to arrive June 3rd. We definately dont want to stay in a crap chute on our honeymoon but we dont want to pay an arm and a leg. Does anyone know of a honeymoon worthy hotel, condo etc. that is reasonably priced? Were also looking for some fun things to do - any ideas? Travel Tips We went to Cancun for our honeymoon in 2003. We stayed at the All Inclusive resort called the Melia Turquesa (it might have changed to just Melia now, not sure). It was a great price ($1800 incl. air, tips, taxes transfers, FROM Memphis). We stayed for 5 days and loved it. The food and drinks (alcoholic too) are included. The food wasn't the best I had ever had, but there was always something I could eat on the buffett every night. Breakfast was excellent. If you want to do your own thing, you could check out vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner)... sometimes they have condo/beach house rentals for cheap in Cancun... you'd just have to check and see what's available, as prices vary depending on the type of condo it is. As far as what to do-- the malls in Cancun are fun, but it's also fun to ride the public buses around-- they take you all over Cancun for just a handful of change. We also rented a jeep for a day, and drove out towards Playa Del Carmen. Out in the middle of no where there was a walk through petting zoo. It was not US standards, but we got to hold crocodiles, pet monkeys, snakes etc. It was a neat experience. Our favorite thing we did was go on an excursion to Xelha and Tulum for the day. 1/2 the day was Tulum (the most beautiful place ever!!!) and the other 1/2 at Xelha, a natural eco park. The total was about $100 per person, but well worth it. It included food, drinks, and transportation and admission to both parks. You can also do the parks on your own, which we would have rathered done since we wanted to stay at Xelha all day!!! Have fun! They can do much more for you because they have connections. If that suggestion doesn't appeal to you, check out www.applevacations.com and liberty travel.com. Cancun, Mexico is not cheap any more. They do have some very nice All-Inclusive resorts. Check out the Palace resorts, they are getting good reviews. Fun things to do I can help you with. Take a ferry to Isa Mujeres(Island of Women) rent a golf cart and tour the island. Good swimming Playa Norte. Calm water.(Tip... Bring money, very few places except credit cards there) Check out Snorkel Adventure Tours in Puerto Morelos they have half day excursions and full day excursions. They pick up at hotel. Visit the Eco-Parks Xel-Hal and XCaret. The following websites can help with some research. Do your research home but wait until you get there to book. Adults only all inclusive with free tours. Beautiful place.
