My fav for a la cartes is The Royal Cancun, I actually really liked the food at the RIU and Royal Solaris too!! Things to do in Cancun are endless from day trips to Playa del Carmen, Xel-ha, Xcaret...try visiting Isla Mujeres ( Island of women ) The Cave of the Sleeping Sharks attracts seasoned divers if you dive, or take a day trip to Holbox,In order to arrive to Holbox island, you have to board the public ferry from Chiquila to the island. Holbox is located in the northern area of the Yucatan Peninsula , exactly where the Mexican Caribbean starts in Cabo Catoche. The island measures 40 kilometers long by up to 2 kilometers wide, making a total area of 40 kilometers square.

Holbox in Maya means "black hole", named after the tiny lagoon in the southern area of the island. The ground of this lagoon is dark, giving the impression of being black. The different rivers go across the jungle mangroves dividing the island into three separate sections, where only the smallest one is inhabited by humans.

It depends on your age. I just went to Cancun last week, and stayed at Club Maeva Tulum. It was awesome!! The a la cartes were delicious but so was the buffet. Excellent food. And they always had activities going on, such as bracelet making, spanish lessons, windsurfing lessons, dancing lessons, beach volleyball, tequila volleyball, bar games, karaoke, etc.. And there were shows nightly. I found it nice because the resort wasn't too big and there wasn't a tremendous amount of people.. So you didn't have to wait in line for anything. Also, the staff were awesome and really fun.

If you go to Cancun I would also suggest a visit to xel ha. It has the best snorkelling! And there are all sorts of fun thing to do there.
Riu Caribe is amazing! Get drunk on the beach, what else?
chalet maya.......about a half hr. from cancun...VERY secluded...went in sept...beautiful weather...only 2 other couples their...own beach to ourselfs...excellent service....stayed at the hilton golf resort in cancun,for a couple days....very nice also...then went off for some peacefullness!!
