Travel Info CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A PREPAID PHONE SERVICE THAT WILL WORK AND HAVE DEPENDABLE SVC. IN CANCUN MX? I AM GOING THERE NEXT MONTH AND LEAVING MY CHILDREN W/FAMILY IN U.S AND NEED SOMETHING DEPENDABLE. UNFORTUNATLY MY PHONE WITH U.S CELLULAR WILL NOT WORK THERE. PLEASE ADVISE! THX Travel Tips go here, you can purchase before you leave. http://www.cancun.com/phone_cards... good luck Others I live in Guadalajara & prefer the -MULTICARD, sold by 7-11 & OXXO. Their website is: www.multiwebphone.com.mx. Don't be confused by the web in their name. It's a simple prepaid phonecard. You can even use it in the States upon your return to phone Cancun. . . I used to live in Playa del Carmen 8 years ago. Be sure to have lunch @ Shanghi Restaurant while you are there. A friend of mine owns it. Hey buddy, I have a better idea than worry about that, why don't you buy a prepaid phone in Mexico, once you be here?, you can find very cheap phones which can be used only for make calls (I mean, with no photo camera, or anything else), you can charge it 100 pesos card (less than 10 dollars), and you can make and receive calls form U.S., my sister who lives there does that when she comes tu visit us. See ya. Try CancunValet you can rent one, I use them and their great, calling cards are good too. http://www.cancunvalet.com/ =) They assign you a number before you leave, which allows you to provide family, friends, baby/house/pet -sitters, coworkers, etc with a way to reach you at all times while you are away USAGE: Our phones will call to anywhere in Mexico, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Europe, and are charged at $0.69 cents per minute, with a $5.00 USD per day minimum. (In other words, if you have a phone for six days (calendar days) and never use it , you are still liable for $30.00 USD upon its return, so you might as well make 42 minutes of calls -- you paid for them!) If you wish to call other countries, please contact Cancun Valet for further information. SERVICE CHARGE: To reserve, and to cover the cost of setting up, delivering and picking up the phone(s), there is a $10.00 USD fee per phone. This amount becomes non-refundable 48 hours before your requested start date. You can probably get a prepaid phone from cingular that would work. I have regular cingular service and I just had the international calling plan added for 1 month for $4.99. My calls to and from Mexico were 10 cents a minute I believe. Text messages were 10 cents and pictures were 25 cents. I had great service and was able to talk to my little one when she or I wanted to talk. Have a great trip. ok, here is what i do with my boyfriend to communicate. lucky for us, recently mexico passed a rule saying that incoming calls to mexican cell phones would be FREE, for the mexican phone. so...what i advise you to do is go to a telcel stand, by a super cheap phone...like 20 bucks, buy a 100 pesos card, and then call your family and give them your new number. they can call you as much as they feel like. and you can call them at least 8 times (on a 100 pesos card) to say, "call me back!!" or better yet, if they have a cell...send them a text, it's cheaper. make sure to add a 5cents/min. plan to your US home phone for the time you are gone. i talk to my boyfriend as much as i want, using this system, and i've never paid more than 30 dollars in a month. and he doesn't complain either. and the great part is you can save the phone for any other trips to mexico, or latin america....even if it's a new company, they'll just replace the SIM card inside the phone. |
