What is the best way to call the US from Cancun? |
Travel Info What is the best way to call the US from Cancun? My condo does NOT have a phone. Anybody know of calling cards with great rates? Do Alltel cell phones work there or would that be the expensive way to call? THANKS!! Travel Tips I personally do not know of any calling cards that would actually be great. But I find it very helpful going downtown cancun. They have lots of Long distance telephones, they may charge around 4 pesos a minute. There are some that charge 2 pesos a minute, you might have to look around to find the 2 pesos ones. you would just have to dial yourself from an assigned phone. 001 + (area code) + Phone number. or they can help you dial if it gets too complicated. to find some of those places go to the ADO station and walk around , you will see lots of little long distance (public phones) they usually have signs and rates on the doors. or just ask. if you dont like the price go somewhere else. I found a place that would do 2 pesos a minute. didnt see any cheaper than that, and I had to look around a little bit harder. try not to buy some of those Public Phone prepaid cards, they cost an arm and a leg and maybe an eye. they really are expensive. or try to avoid the phone services at the zona hotelera, they really over charge everything. I have cingular. I did have to call(cingular) in advance and get an international calling plan added to to my service. It was only $4.99 a month and it only cost like .30 cents a minute to call home and .25 cents for incoming and outgoing messages I think. When you get back cancel the plan and that was that. My friend had cingular and didn't get the plan and she could not hardly get any service and when she did it was like $1.00 a minute. Hope you have a great trip. |
