What is the best form of $ to take on vacation to cancun, mexico? |
Travel Info We are going to cancun for a week. Should we take american cash/ traveler's checks/or should we get pesos? Which would be best? Travel Tips I just returned from Cancun and have been all over Mexico. Almost all places in Cancun take US currency at the going exchange rate. I use my ATM card, which is accepted at any bank or ATM machine. Some of the ATM's in Cancun will give you dollars or pesos. It doesn't matter which currency you decide to use. You will find that the exchange rate on traveler's checks is not that good, where an ATM is going to give you the current rate. Have fun. Others take your debit card. especially in cancun, most places take it, and the ATM will allow you to get pesos, for the best exchange rate. Went to Akumal last year, and shopped at Playa del Carmen. Took US $ Travellers Cheques and a bit of Canadian cash. Everyone cashed your travellers cheques, even McDonald's. There were also places in town (Playa) that exchanged money. I would suggest taking mostly Travellers Cheques, since they are insured, and smaller demonations of cash ($1's to $5's) for tipping at the airport/hotel. I would recomend to change a cuple of dollars into Pesos. Some places take both, but some places don't. Don't spend money on travel cks, unless you want to. ATM's are available in Cancun. Have great trip, and don't drink the local water! Stick to bottle water, trust me. Jesus. it's best to take US cash or your ATM card. most places took either US money or pesos. and there are tons of places to exchange money, including their convenience stores. have fun!!! |
