First time in Cancun? |
Travel Info Has anyone been to cancun for memorial day weekend? If so could you please give me some inside tips, what to definitely bring, what are some good places to eat. Are there any activities besides partying? How much do average meals, souvenirs cost? I was trying to figure out how much money I should take. Does anyone advise on carrying US cash or just travelers checks? Thank YOU!!! I would Greatly Appreciate any and all info you could give me... Travel Tips Memorial Day is going to be packed but here are some tips to help you that I wish I knew before going. 1) Bring Aloe Vera, you never know how much sun is going to crisp your skin. 2) Bring of course good sun tan lotion spf of 30 or higher and see if you can also get some benedrayll in case of sea lice attack. Please keep in mind that April, May and June are the months where sea lice is most active. I discovered that after being attacked and had nothing to alleve the itching. 3) Cancan has a lot of local favorites from the US but I would say in the day time go and venture through the main busy streets of Cancun to check out resturants. 4) Do not trust yourself or members with you to go somewhere where you don't see people around, if you don't feel confident, move. 5) When in the shops, bargain, do not just take the prices at face value you can bargain with them and if they say no, tell no thanks and let them know that you are going to another store. Now this works for those little outside stores. Do not try this inside the Mall there because they won't even bother with you. 6) Bring about 40dollars in singles this should help you when you are leaving tips. Bring your credit card not your debit card! 7) Go and visit the pyramids, there are several tours that your hotel can arrange for you. 8) If you are going to carry cash I would advise you have some means to carry your money and card because you don't want to be any lure for those looking to take from you. This means do not count your cash in front of the streets, or pull out money as though no one is looking. 9) There is a public bus that takes you from one end of main touristy cancun to another and you will find so many others like you on this bus. Have a great time! Others As for eating- We only eat at the hotel...well mostly..Unless you go to a restaurant that looks populated and not some underground taqueria. Senor Frogs- Carlos and Charlies...pretty good. Activities? Theres definitely snorkeling, the ferry to Cozumel, Swimming with Dolphins, Jeep Tours, Parasailing..AND of course, shopping. Theres a NICE mall right off of the strip. Youll see it. We get All Inclusive plans..so we don't need any money except for exscursions and stuff...so we usually brings $300 for a weekend trip and bring back at least a hundred. We carry cash...Not because we think it works better, but becuase we're lazy. Its always worked great for us. HAVE FUN! There is a really cool place to go and spend they day if you like snorkeling or swimming and walking thru the Forrest. It is called Xel-ha. It's like a national park kinda. It's all inclusive food and drinks. It is down past plays Del Carmen, about an hour or hour and a half from Cancun. ask at the tour desk in your hotel. It's awesome, you can swim with dolphins there to, I think that costs about 100 us dollars to swim with them I don't remember for sure. They have bikes and a little train you can ride thru the forrest if you don't want to walk. There are little bars set up everywhere and you can choose from five different restaurant's. You can even have your picture taken with parrots if you want :) As far as good places to eat in Cancun try Jimmy Buffets margarita ville, or The Rain Forrest Cafe. I don't think Planet Hollywood is still there, but if it is its pretty good too. You could go to Fat Tuesday's bar and go bungee jumping of a tower out back, the Fat Tuesday's outside of town, not in town. While you're there you could take the boat trip out to I can't remember the name in spanish but I think in english it means "the island of women". It is an all inclusive trip to this island and they feed you and there are bars everywhere, they have a big stage show. It's pretty cool! ask about it at the tour desk in your hotel as well. There is always Senior Frogs bar leaping tour, no explination needed here! Again ask at the tour desk. I cant remember the name of the plaza the bar leaping tour starts at but it's a great place to shop and there is an aquarium you could walk thru, never did that but I'm gonna the next time I'm there :) Have fun:) I wish I was going I love Cancun!!! Well, it is Memorial weekend in the US but not in Mexico. It is just like any other weekend in paradise, terrific. You don't mention what month you are coming however that really isn't a problem. It is usually very warm (hot) and there is usually humidity but there is an ocean breeze to off set. Bathing suits, cover up, shorts, sundress, sunglasses, short sleeved or sleeveless tops and sandals and / or flip flops. Don't forget a good sun block! Debit card, cash or traveler's checks are fine. There are great tours to go on, swimming, para sailing, beach volley ball, shopping...the list goes on and on. Average evening meal in the hotel zone is $30. - $45 per person in the city about 1/2 that. There is a seafood restaurant in downtown on Friday's that has a special from 2 - 4 all you can eat seafood and beer for $150 pesos (that is roughly $15.00 us). How much better can that be? Souvenirs well that is up to you however if a vendor is asking $20 US a fair price is usually 1/2 that. Start by offering $8.00 and end up at the $10.00 price. Hope this helps some. Have a great trip! I would budget your day to about $150 US a day, there is many good places to eat in Cancun, The Taco factory beside Dady O is my favorite for Lunch, you can take a trip up to the Bull Ring for some more favorite Mexican specialties, The Argentian Steak house is also very very good. Meals range from $5.00 up to $35.00 depends where you eat. I wouldn't travel with Traveler cheques there as you will lose on your exchange rate. Basically eat smart, don't always splurge on the big restaurants and ask around if you book tours for the best pricing, watch the airport when you arrive as they have alot of scams lately with asking you to pay for your tours up front and it's a pain to actually cash in on them. Stay away from Time share and they will hound you, check out http://www.cancun.com for alot more useful info on Cancun , tours, restaurants, shopping etc, and most of all have fun! I have been there and is amazing here are some hotels Canc煤n Holiday Inn Express Canc煤n $398 Ambiance Villas & Club $414 Cozumel Casa Mexicana Cozumel $530 El Cozumele帽o $880 Isla Mujeres Ixchel Beach Hotel $999 Avalon Reef Club $599 Playa del Carmen Las Golondrinas $240 Grand Coco Bay All Inclusive Resort $693 Hacienda del Caribe $360 Viva Wyndham Azteca $716 Viva Wyndham Maya $658 Tukan $398 ** Tarifas en Pesos/Noche/pp You can go to riviera maya, let me tell you that there are many discotheques and many cute guys , the weather is often good ,don't forget confortable clothes |
