How Safe are the Safes?

How safe are the in room safes in your hotel room? Im thinking of bringing down my laptop and want to know if it would be safe in the safes along with our passports. If it help, we will be staying in the cancun oasis hotel.

If you are going to stay at Oasis, you should not mind, they will take care of your laptop. However, if you have important infomation, do not risk it, Cancun is to enjoy, is it not?

I'm not sure about the safe's at the oasis, but the ones at the hotel we stayed at last year in Cancun were not big enough for a laptop. I read somewhere to wipe of the keypad after you put in your code and then nobody could dust it and get the code. Sounds kinda silly, but I did it.
If someone has the right key, it's still posisble for them to open your safe. That said, in a decent hotel in Cancun, I would expect them to be secure and safe; I wouldn't be so sure in a dodgy hotel or backpacking hostel in parts of Asia.

However, I have stayed in many hotels around the world and can honestly say that I've never come across one big enough to hold a laptop. If I ever travel with my laptop, I lock it in my suitcase and then put my case somewhere where it isn't likely to be moved by the cleaners.
