Why are bikes more popular in India than cars?

Travel Info
I was amazed to see so many bikes in chennai station in the morning.

Travel Tips
1. Lower incomes.
2. Less ability to buy gas.
3. Fewer developed highway systems
4. Less living space in cities (and less parking space as a result)
5. Bike use is encouraged by the govt for above reasons.

Others
it is not so
They are poor.
People are generally poor! They cannot afford a car, let alone the gas and maintenance it takes to operate one!
Because of the traffic and most of all they can save money and burn thier fats.
Because they are just now becoming a nation that the average person may be able to purchase cars, and bikes are a really good form of transportation. Remember most Indians live in the same city they work and distance is not a problem for them to travel.

and there are a lot of Indians......in those cities. what about 2 billion now. in all of India or MORE....
maybe because they can afford bikes more than cars. Car sure is very expensive and they'd rather spend their money filling their mouths of food then gasoline for their cars. Practical life.
