Travel Info its a every day story. To reach at some destination during the peak hours especially around 9 and 11 int he morning is like going though hell... traffic traffic and traffic.. and instead of lamp post there are so many signal lights.. I find it very very difficult to reach the destination right on time. How many out there stuck with the same frustration? in the past 2 years there have been a number of roads laid and maintained andi appreciate that part. Travel Tips The first thing Chennai road users should follow is traffic discipline. As you might have seen on the road everyday, its not the auto rickshaws who are unruly and rash, but the two wheeler riders. They give scant respect to road rules and put the other road users under extreme situations. Its quite easy to scratch your car and get away in a two wheeler. Police has the last say in this matter. They are more intersted in finding faults and revenue. Nor the department of road transport is intersted in educating such growing pattern of unruly road driving. Video cameras which are said to be installed are rusting, rather to be a deterrant in Chennai. Chennai is a dying city, in terms of culture, traffic discipline, humanity and cleanliness. If a big calamity happens, God forbid, Chennai will be the last city to cope with & help each other, sadly. Others If you are an american speaking about the USA, I would answer as a brit by saying that the U.S should definetly install more roundabouts at over 50% of junctions wherever it is possible to do so. This gets rid of the need for traffic signals and roundabouts are just superior in every way; cheaper, more effecient, cleaner, better and safer. but u need to use public transport and start early. u will be happy and on time and avoid the traffic If you happen to live in CHENNAI, you might have noticed the traffic pattern. The traffic will be hectic in the morning and evening peak hours when it is a working day for STATE Government. For given any State Government Holiday you can find considerably less congestion in roadsand buses. State Government staff and other office goers play a major role in congesting the roads during the so called 'peak' hours. From which ever direction you are hailing from, you will find it difficult to reach your destination {office,work place etc} since most of the work places and offices are located in the NE corner or SE corner of the city. Tamilians do not prefer to have round abouts and having more round abouts also are costly affair. The famous Tamil writer SUJATHA, once observed that if centrally located and integrated work and / or office points are identified in all the directions with considerable spatial resolution[i.e resident to work point optimum distance in any direction for any worker] 18% OF THE COMMUTER TRAFFIC CAN BE CURTAILED DAILY. This means enormous save in fuel and foreign exchange. This will be made possible with the advent of Information Technology enabled Services [ITeS]. The current office will continue to function. By the same time staff commuting a larger distance will be asked to work in a nearby integrated office complex which will have Main frame computer facility, and ITeS. When he uses the smarter card and get into his cubacle, duty from his office will be assigned to him in the monitor in from of him and he may discharge his duties there accordingly. For example, officers and staff of Revenue department, preferring to work in the closer by Integrate Office Complex nearer to their home will be given sepeate slots and duties will be assigned from their respective Head of office and they will be discharging their dities from there. It may seem Utopian. But it will come to reality at least by 2025. Then the roads will be decongestant. Optimum traffic will be there. Software experts can come out with solutions. I can give them valuable inputs regarding e-governance. |
