My husband is transfered to chennai .so plz someone tell me abt chennai.? |
Travel Info I want to know the climate there, and what are the languages i have to learn. Is things expensive there, where can i get low rent houses.and what are the things cheaper there.iam basically form bangalore and iam a muslim. so plz explain about chennai. the place in chennai where my husband is transfered is shollinganallur Travel Tips CHENNAI- Many people answered before me have talked very high about Chennai, may be they have not seen better place. I am also from Chennai but I have stayed in other cities mostly and now in Bangalore. I give my opinion at the end for your information. Climate - Very Hot It will go even beyond 40 deg. C For eleven months in a year it will be hot and only in Dec/Jan for about 1 month it will be somewhat better. Persons going from Bangalore will feel the heat. You will require AC for at least 8 months. Languages- Tamil (Must) and English Cost of living- Comparable to other Big Cities of India, To some extent lesser than Bangalore. Houses on rent- For Solinganallur you have to take a house in Adyar or Tiruvanmiyur and In these areas the rent is high due to development of IT/Software industries. You will get an apartment of 2 rooms for about 10000/=. For Muslims people may hesitate to give so you have to locate a house owned by a Muslim. My opinion and impressions - Basically people here are very bad with very narrow outlook and low mentality. Cunning. Auto drivers are CHEATS, you do not get respect from any one, in the buses or markets, as they do not know what is respect. The wait for opportunity to stab you. Dirty politics, Cheap mentality, more of cinema cultured and even the daily papers (excepting one or two English dailies like Hindu) are of very poor standard. Hats off to the Dravidian Parties who have looted Tamilnadu and also spreading the above culture. Any way where ever the job is there one has to go. So do not get involved in any other matters and mind only your business. I can give only this advise. Best of Luck- Source(s): - Other Travel Tips Chennai is a nice place to live, knowing english will get you by but knowing tamil is an assett, I dont know where shollingnallur is but I lived in Adyar for a couple of years and it was a nice place to be . tamilians are good people and educated too. Muslims and mosques are all around and I dont see any trouble there. I was just in Chennai last week :)) Just in time for the Pongal rush... My perspective is probably different because I'm an American. But, it was incrediably crowded at the markets (Pongal). We visited my husbands college friends and their home was nice and they were really friendly. Knowing Tamil is definately an asset. I know a few phrase and words here and there but that's it. Most of the shops and star hotels/resteraunts speak English so that may help you too. I've not been to Banglore so I can't be of much help in the cost department. I do know that if you wish to buy a good flat it will cost about $200,000. Real estate is booming in Chennai and a great investment, but so is Banglore :)) Good Luck! Place is good. Safe and pple are courteous. Try to find some apartment in Thiruvanmiyur or Adyar. Those places are inside the city and still commutable to Sholing. It is almost same or bit less costly than bangalore is. But it will be real hot during the summer. Why would he choose to go there? Bangalore is awesome place and successful people move into Bangalore. Think twice before leaving Bangalore. You will miss Bangalore. Chennai is a beautiful place. Major I.T companies are in sholinganallor. You can rent an apartment in thiruvanmiyur. Nice place with beaches nearby. Knowing english is fine. Climate is pretty hot. Good Luck |
