Cost of living?

in 4-6 months time i will be shifting to chennai for my college. the thing is that therz no hostel facility for 1st years so i might be renting a place with one of my friends. i wanted to know how much monthly expenses would come to including rent and other.
a breakdown would be preferred. i hope to be in the nugambakkam area.

If you are in Nungambakkam area (it is an expensive suburb) but I guess you will be able to get accmdn from Rs1,500 per person upwards. Check around, look around before you decide. One good thing is the excellent bus and suburban train service in Madras. If u had mentioned details of yr college I could be more specific. There are many small and big restaurants in and around nungambakkam. Depending on yr tastes (if it is reasonable) i think you can survive on Rs.2,000 a month for food. You should be able to survive well within 4,500 a month.(esp as a student).

Well, in Chennai generally the hostel rate is under Rs.2000 per month including food, water, eb and bike shed...
it comes around Rs.3500 approx...
