Is call taxis cheaper compared to pre-paid taxis in Chennai ? |
Travel Info (Thank you KripaKaran for answering my prev. question). My situation is that my final stop is Egmore Rail. Station. I Got 2 heavy baggage..which makes it problematic to travel in Bus. So, my next option is local train. is there local train from Egmore station to Guindy (OR) Egmore to Saidapet ? Option 2 is call taxi. Is call taxis cheaper than pre-paid taxis ?? do you advise me to take call taxi and head for Velachery directly ?? One more question regarding lodge and mansion. (As KripaKaran said lodge is preferable to Mansion). But if I stay for a month in a lodge will the expense be more or less like living in a mansion ?? I like to live independently so for the time being is lodge the best choice ?? Finally, how do i get a list of paying guest/ independent accommodations ?? Is the yellow pages helpful ?? (I have asked quite a number of qns) Hope you can help me out. Thanks a lot. Travel Tips 1. Get a local train from egmore, it is just 2 platform away from the long distance trains platform.(i dont advice if you have heavy luggage) 2. if you are having heavy luggage i would prefer a pre-paid taxi rather than a call taxi where you will have to wait for sometime.( you will get pre-paid taxi counter just outside the egmore railway station - may be they will charge 300-400 Rs - depending upon what time you arrive- at night they charge more) dont take any help from the porters they charge heavy ( sometimes the amount which you paid for traveling from your home town :)) that is Chennai) Dont get down in Saidapet - from station it is hard to get a taxi or move out to a nearest bus staion - Guindy is the best choice I don't even advice a lodge. Google for guest houses - if your work location is near velachery or IT corridor ( From tharamani to Siruseri which is about 20 KM ) I wouild suggest you look out for a accomadation near Velacheri or Sholinganallur. Initially you will have to stay in some lodge ( remember there is no lodge in Velacheri - Only one near the bus station - they charge 600 Rs) and search for accomadation you will get guest houses near velacheri. In velacheri a double bedroom flat may cost you from 6-7 thousand rupees ( You will be paying 10 times of rental as advance in Chennai, negotiate for 5-6 months ) hope this helps you .. and welcome to Chennai Source(s): I live in Velacheri Other Travel Tips |
