Travel Info Why is John Dillinger significant to Chicago? Travel Tips Dillinger wasn't "caught" by police in front of the Biography theater, he was SHOT and killed there. He died in the alley nearby. The feds had gotten a woman to go with him to the theater so they could identify Dillenger when he left the theater. To make it easy for them she wore a red dress, hence, "the lady in red". The Biograph theater is still there, but they don't show movies now, it's a stage theater. Others John Dillinger was Public Enemy No. 1 back in the 1930's - He had a crime spree that was evident through out the mid west.
