Good and safe places to live to Chicago, IL?

Travel Info
What areas in Chicago are good places to live? I will be having a roommate with me and we both have a little bit of money. I heard Jerffson Park, and some other place around there. I'm planning to move with in a year. Let me know what's up

Travel Tips
Well...

Chicago is the 3rd biggest city in the US...

So... there's plenty safe and good places to live...

But I'd recommend (near center) the Emerald st or the Union st... in Bridgeport!

a good place to live is most of the north side and hyde park
Jefferson Park is ok!!!! But if you are single and want to live on the northwestside u should move to Edison park lots of fun!!!! More importantly it is safe a lot of police live in the neighborhood!
There is crime EVERYWHERE. There have been murders on the Gold Coast and there have been recent sexual assults in Wrigleyville, two neighborhoods that are supposed to be "safe". Granted, some neighborhoods are more dangerous than others, but the key to living in the big city is to be aware of your surroundings. Don't walk like a victim (afraid to make eye contact with people because you think they'l talk to you, carring your bags loosely, standing on the corner counting money, etc.)

That being said, if you're looking for cheap but relatively safe apartments, try the Edgewater area. You can get a decent two-bedroom for about $750-900. The area is a mixed (white, black, asian, mexican, indian, you name it...). There are a bunch of new fancy restaurants, a new bakery cafe, large and small grocery stores, close to public transportation, thai restaurants, bookstores, and a Starbuck for your latte fix. It's only a few steps from the lake, which is great in the summertime (volleyball nets, a biking/running path). It's probably one of the best kept secrets in Chicago right now as far as safety and affordability. Like I said, it does have its bad element, but them almost all Chicago neighborhoods do, but you'd do well to check it out.
