Do you always need a credit card to rent a hotel room/car? |
Travel Info Do you always need a credit card to rent a hotel room/car? Travel Tips Yes you need something with a credit card logo on it. I don't have any major credit cards, but I use my debit card for that kind of stuff. Mine has the Master Card logo. The hotel just needs the number to hold the room so if you don't show, you get charged. When I check out of a hotel I will pay cash if I have that much on me. Same with the rent a car, it's just incase you damage the car, they have somewhere to charge the money too. If you don't intend on doing anything illegal or damaging to either then using a debit card is not a bad way to go, works just like cash. Others Yes...always. To my knowledge yes they do. Yes, and I think that is unfair, don't you. Yes they do. And I think the reason they do is because they are guaranteed the money. If you write a check, it could bounce. Money... whose carrying that much money? And credit or debit will automatically tell you if they have the funds. Of course. Why would they let you rent a car and just give them cash for it? So you give them $100 and drive off forever with a car that costs thousands and they have no way of getting their car back.... As far as the hotel, you can probably get into a flophouse without a credit card, but for even the most modest of accomodations, you will need a credit card to at least hold the room until you get there. If you book and don't show up or cancel, they'll be out of a night's money so they will have to charge YOU. unfortunally...yes...is a way for them to protect the car or the hotel room...is a lot of trashy people out there and thefts...with a credit card they can charge you for the damage...a debit card with a Visa logo will do it... |
