I have three days in Chicago next week. What is worth seeing? |
Travel Info What should I see and whats not worth seeing, being that is going to be stinking cold while Im there? Travel Tips Although I'm sure a lot of people would say Navy Pier, skip that crap. yeah, it's indoors, but there's nothing about it that says "Chicago". Just a bunch of crappy stores selling trinkets. I guess if you have some last minute Christmas shopping to do, it might be worth it. But other than that... Go to the Signature room at the top of the John Hancock. It's free; well, you might have to buy a drink. But its a great view and you don't have to ride the elevator with a bunch of school kids going to the observation deck. Try Goose Island Brewery. If you're there on a Saturday you can watch a bunch of old fat guy relive their college days while they watch basketball or football. Seriously, they have some great beers there that are brewed on premises. Go to Andersonville on North Clark street. A lot of great bars, great restaurants, a few nice shops. There is a bar called Hopleaf that has great food and one of the biggest beer selections around, from all over the world. Don't do something stupid and order a Budweiser, though. If you're hungry, try Ann Sathers for breakfast or Andies Mediterranean restaurant. The whole neighborhood has a Swedish heritage and on the weekend, people come to the few remaining Swedish restaurants for food and stop by Simon's tavern for a drink. You'l recognize Simon's by the giant neon herring wearing the Viking helmet outside the building. The museums are cool, I guess. The Art Institute, the Museum of Comtemporary Art (MCA), the Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry. I'd also recommend the Mexican Museum of Fine Arts. It's a little out of the way, but, to me, it's worth it. Finally, hit the comedy clubs: Second City, ImprovOlympic, Annoyance Theater, Zanies... Check the Metromix website (www.metromix.com) for what specific events are going on the days you're here. Others Go to boys town and visit the bath house. Chicago is a really great place to visit but you are right, dress warmly. All along Lake Shore Drive there are points of interest, depending on your likes there are the Field Museum of Natural History and Science and Industry Museum which are both world class operations. Navy Pier always has things of interest that change periodically. Shead Aquarium is also a major tourist stop. You can ride to the top of Sears Tower or Hancock and if it is a clear day you will be able to see for miles. Christmas season turns Michigan Avenue into a wonderland with all stores going all out with elaborate window displays. You might want to do some Christmas shopping. The nightlife is good in Chi, try, well almost anyplace on the near north side. Cubbieville, a bar near Wrigley Field is a good spot. There are the usual chain operations like Hard Rock Cafe and plenty of Chicago based bars and restaurants. Downtown you'll find theater of near Broadway quality. Do take a cab ride along Lake Shore Drive as well. I haven't lived in Chicago for some years but enjoy visiting three or four times a year. Maybe some locals will answer and know of concerts or shows that will be in town next week. Have a great time! nothing, stay in your room. Depends what you're into. We got the field museum, science and industry museum, the Shedd aquarium and the Art Institute, in you're into those. Shopping (though I don't know why people travel to shop, but many do) The magnificent mile down michigan ave would be your thing. If you like seeing sites (for picture purposes or what not) We have Wrigley field, U.S. Cellular Field, Soldier Field, Sears Tower, the Bean in Millenium Park, Buckingham Fountain(not really a winter site), the Lake and others We have a bunch of theaters you might want to take a look at http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/stage... to find stuff in advance If you're looking for clubs, I'm not a clubber sorry. There are a lot of restaurants every, personally I enjoy small private restaurants that are all over. But I hope you have a great time out here, take advantage, kudos on planning your trip, plan alternatives and again have a great time. Go ice skating in Millenium Park but stay away from Navy Pier (huge tourist trap). you could go to the museums and you could go to the shedd aquarium go shopping you name it there is plenty to do in Chicago |
