Do I have to get out of the station when I take the train from midway airport to evanston?

Someone told me to take orange line then transfer to red line at Roosevelt,then transfer to the purple line at howard to Northwestern university .Do I have to get out of the stations when transfer?

Yes, you have to walk downstairs and go into the nearby subway. But if I were you I wouldn't get off at Roosevelt, I would wait until I get to Adams and Wabash stop. The Purple line train that goes express to Evanston may still be running and if it is, you can catch it there without leaving the platform and paying another fare (it doesn't run all night but sometimes runs late into the evening). If it's not running, you can still go downstairs and walk one block west to the state street subway to catch the red line.
