Elmhurst versus Glen Ellyn, IL? Where should I live?

Travel Info
We are buying a house in the next week in Chicagoland. We eliminated Naperville because of the longer train drive and drive to Ohare. Also, the long wait on parking passes and the daily commuter lot filling up by 7am (roughly) is unacceptable.

My wife and I (also have a 1 year old son) have decided to go with Glen Ellyn or Elmhurst based on the shorter train ride, ease of getting a parking pass, and daily lot being available up until 8am (roughly).

We can't decide which community we like better. Any thoughts?

Travel Tips
Regarding property value, each town is still enjoying a good clip moving up. Both towns are nice with strong retail corridors. Elmhurst has more couples moving in than G.E., but both towns have many young families coming in (like yours).

Personally, I like Elmhurst. Better range of types of housing architecture and being so close to I-290 is great. Great schools too, from pre-school to university level. Also, I do think that the Metra monthly pass is a little cheaper rom Elm/Loop than G.E./Loop.

With either town, you can't go wrong, but my choice is Elmhurst.

Benton Harbor
Overall Elmhust will be more expensive in terms of home prices. Elmhurst also will be louder due to the flight patterns into O'Hare. Schools are probably close with Elmhurst being slightly better but that is debatable.

I honestly think that you can't go wrong with either choice.

Good Luck!

I have to say Glen Ellyn. I was raised there ( I'm now 44 )
Although, I live in AZ now. I think overall GE is an excellent place to live and raise a family. The school system is outstanding, crime is low, shopping is wonderful. Mostly upper class level of residents. But, mid class is common also. I could go on and on but, you've probably already researched things yourself. I am also very familiar with Elmhurst and just don't think it has the qualities of GE. Hope this will help a little with your decision
I agree with you for eliminating Naperville, I have lived there my whole life and it's true that the traffic and commute to Chicago is not worth it. I think that your choice between Elmhurst and Glen Ellyn will depend on how much you are willing to spend on a house. Elmhurst is similar to Naperville in that it has kind of a trendy downtown area and there is more demand to move there. Look into the Chicago Tribune's ratings of the school districts (you can search for the article on their website). In my opinion, Elmhurst is the better choice, but since they are so similar, base your decision on what you value in your neighborhood (large house, open yard, traffic noise, etc.)
